For The Record: Admin
Helge wishes it to be known that he never dj'd at the Rose Garden. The dj's there were playing helge's brand of alternative music, if not actually playing his tapes! so the confusion is understood. But this was how it was so easy to confuse the general public, which still continues to this today.

Nick Cave: Baruda
Helge introduced me to the music of Nick Cave and the bad seeds and many many other bands of which I am still in awe of. I am fortunate enough to be going to see Nick Cave this very saturday evening. Thanks for the intro to this great band and many others.

addition to we were the babies The wonderful thing about the Rose Garden, Play and the likes thereof was the fact that I had done ballet for 12 years...I no longer had to find a partner to dance with me...standing opposite them moving my hips and legs to the ositively boring music...I could dance freely..and this I did...\'freedance\'.

We were the babies: Ursula
When I started going to the Rose Garden, I don't think I was a day over 14. Coming from a really small coastal town north of Durban, I never imagined I would find what I found at the Rose Garden...it was fantastic! I was immediately attracted, like a moth to a flame. Myself and a bunch of friends spent our weeks at school and our weekends on Grey Street looking for wierd and wonderful clothing, jewelry and artifacts to express who we were transforming into. Those were magnificent days, times that moulded me into who I am today...our kids call Helge a 'Famous Person'. Helge, you have obviously exceeded your reputation! When you hear that the kids of the kids you entertained, from such an early age, right through until now... know you to be famous! Greatest stepping stones in my life! Thank you!

I used to attend Faces and my band - MI5 - played at the battle of the bands at Rumours. Helge, I can only speak for myself and my circle of friends. Your music left indelible footprints in our lives that affected the way we were, the way we are and the way we try to nfluence the world today. As a musician, my well of inspiration runs deep into the past - part of it upstairs at Faces. As a teenager your music provided a shelter from the ravages of growing up in an oppressive environment. I think that not one of us walked away from your experience without carrying a pearl of inspiration around which we wrapped our experiences. I am so glad that you are thriving and supported. It's good to know that the memory of your past glories live on in your current pursuits. More power to you.

It's wierd finding your website. I recently watched 24 Hour Party People and sort of bumped along into Control, (the book and the film) and then re-visited the music I was listening to in the mid-80's such as Talking Heads, The Cure, The Clash, The Buzzcocks and even Elvis Costello. Great site, really cool to see your pics. Mwa

Most Exquisite!: J
Ek sit oppie rand van discovery, vir my is dit amper tyd vir a nuwe tyd / wereld / mense en hulle dinge en toe loop ek jou raak online...interesting. Ek het a moment net vir jou want ek dink jy weet jy is anders - from one to another, so kom ons maak soos ou vriende en wees in love vir a rukkie, tot real life weer opdaag en ons probably vir altyd wegwaai... Live shows soos New Model Army, Nephilim, Sisters, Cure, Bauhaus, Dead can Dance, Nick Cave en nog heelwat ander is iets om net van te droom want Andrew, Carl, Nick, Rob en meeste van die ander is ook net mens en actually nogals boring en fokken baie insecure - dis a eye opener en nie a baie pleasant een nie so dream your dreams and live it in your own ways - follow your dreams but MAKE it happen - do not seek out another's dream for it will be no more your own than it ever was. Time's almost up.... Knock knock on the chamber door where once was work to do there is no more than silence, and my dust, come tread moments of our dreams, together, illuminated, fragmented and void J

Discovery... wot a find!: Guest
Helge... All I can say is WOW. This is really great. You have been a HUGE part in the youth of my life. Without the Rose Garden's and PLAYS of yesterday I would have been a lot less blessed. Thank you for the exposure. THANK YOU for the alternative. I miss your dance-floors of the past, and, always yearn for a return. GREAT WEBSITE! Keep the feet OFF the path most traveled and keep on being the fly in the ointment. We all will benefit from this. Many many many thanks and hopes for a Helge 2008!!!!

all the lonely people where do they all ...: Guest
dear hoj. do you remember ,oh prescient one, that as early as 1982, you once painfully commented that : this country is creating a nation of psychopaths... -and your work in addition to creating the light of art,,has fought to be an antidote to that prediction.

BRILLIANT ! ! THANK YOU FOR THIS JOURNEY. KEEP THE SCENERY MOVING AND CHANGING. A LONG AND WINDING ROAD, WHERE IT LEADS NO-ONE KNOWS. DO NOT GET SIDE-TRACKED BY THESE DISTRACTIONS... THEY WILL BE OVERCOME. REPLAY WILL EMERGE STRONGER I AM SURE!!!

gifts...: Guest
Dearest Helge. You give us (and must also in its making - yourself) heart and hope with your eulogy to BRIAN . Through the spasms of anguish as I read , my lips still twitch into an amused and appreciative smile, a tightly wry and accepting grimace-grin, a full-blown eye-lit chuckle...and that sigh-soft mouth that accompanies great gratitude and wonder. To have lived and died , leaving a commemoration as he gave you to give ,- must surely be the very best any bright being can and has accomplished. And so of course he will go on , now a part of our cells too , sharing multitudes of life , moving into endless futures , and never unwillingly alone being carried in your heart . As he gave/gives you the gift of sharing himself with you , you too gave/give him the gift of knowing exactly how to receive it.

Read the eulogy this morning. "And Brian once said to me that the reason why we understood each other so well, was that we were the same person". I think this encapsulates so much. Strength and warmth. G

as always , light and love...: Guest
- have just read 'looking...' ( can still ...in the mind's I , see you performing it ). It's long since i've read your performance work , but this piece blurs my vision (NOT my seeing...) and it feels my blood will flood this festered room where i sit ..( and paradoxically look and find oxygen and love - carrying on the breaking and blooming of my heart in its - gratefully - inexorable beating .) Your piece uncovers a cut jewel in the plexus of my body. The facetpoints , as it moves ( and it WILL move ) , burn razorlasers of light . And now i will , as i walk , shine . This is so much one of your best works . i am in awe at its making and blessed by its giving .

Fantastic site Helge'! Stunning to see that you are going stronger than ever. Such brilliant memories! Faces was the turning point for me. Have never looked back since. Saw so many familiar faces. Thank you. Will definitely be visiting the new club when we come over on holiday. Unlike my friend the London Pigmy I may need an afternoon nap but that will just keep me going till dawn! Keep the faith pure and strong.

Hello from London. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. Some of us from Faces are still alive, LOL. That pic of me was taken more than half my life ago. I am still enjoying my youth. When in Durban again, I will definately see you all at the club. And no, I will not need an afternoon nap before hand, honest!
