| I had collected about a months worth of front pages of the Daily News. The performance began with me announcing to the audience how worthless the papers had been in keeping us informed about political issues. As I was speaking I held up each page and then crumpled it up and threw it down into the performance area. Those are the crumpled bits of paper visible in the photographs and therefore an integral part of the performance. The performance itself attempts to chronicle a process of freeing oneself from ones conditioning - possibly something more relevant to the white youth of the time... There were TWO further public performances of BODA. One was as a 'street performance' of this same piece at the Ecumenical Centre where the theme was: NO MORE FASCISM and it was linked to an anti-apartheid event at the centre. Our performance culminated in me 'graffitying' a white cloth with the words "NO MORE FASCISM" and then setting it alight. Our final performance as a group was over a three day period in the Hall of the Ecumenical Centre called "THROUGH A LENS". Gisele Stafford and Gisele Turner were unavailable for this performance. |
